Here is a short creative writing story that came to me as I wrote The Arrival story:
Ever get that feeling of that things just don’t go your way. Well right now I feel that way. I am staring down the largest demon of hell and all I have is an old outdated drill. Let me give some background. I am a worker on Sigma-4, a mining station on a highly volcanic of moon of Pluto. A couple of days ago we were drilling in a new region of the crust below our Sigma-4 which had previously been untapped. The miners working their discovered a strange unbreakable rock that glowed a dim fluorescent blue light hit it. It was about the size of soda can. No one knew what the rock could have possibly have been. The scientist stationed on Sigma-4 started to do tests on it, but all the tests were unable to shed any light on the origins or even the material the rock was made from. After a couple of days the mystery of the rock seemed to go away. We miners were distracted by putting in as much overtime as possible before the pay period, and the managers and scientists were all busy with their own work. Life seemed to be normal. Then the rock went missing. The company had the facility searched and the personal checked by the security, but no signs of the rock were found. Secretly one of the scientists had taken the rock to keep it for when he returned to his own home world. He would never get the chance though. The rock started to get to his mind. It infected it with some disease, some virus of evil origins. The scientist which had taken the rock turned into a maniac. When the security did a second round of investigation to find the rock, they came to search the scientist’s quarters. The found him, with the small rock protruding out of his forehead, lying on the ground covered in the blood of another scientist whose corpse was a few feet away from him. The corpse had chunks of it eaten off, but with no rhyme or reason. One ear was When the security tried to detain the deranged scientist he trashed at them and broke free of their restraints. He soon overpowered the guards and proceeded to eat some of them too. When the screams of the security team rang through the facility, the security center sent the entire security force to the room’s entrance. When they opened the door the scientist appeared less human and more beastial. His legs were becoming disjointed, and his skin was turning a deep crimson color. The strange rock which started this all was pushing out of his forehead, which was changing with his brow line becoming more prominent and all of his hair falling out. His eyes had turned a bright yellow too. This monster lunged at the security force. Relentlessly the ripping apart everyone of them. Their weapons did no visible harm to this beast either. When all of them had been left a corpse he proceeded to gorge himself on their remains. Every person partly consumed left him larger and stronger. Soon the monster had grown so large that the clothes of the scientist that had once inhabited the same body were bursted shreds. This beast started to have large scales form from its back and a tail sprouted from its lower back. Afters its feast was finished it was the size of the entire corridor. All the meanwhile the miners, myself included, were still at work in the mines. It beast proceed to wipe out the rest of the station as we worked our shift. As my fellow miners finished their shift and left the mine. I stayed down in the mine to finish the pocket of ore which I had started working on. The drill I was using had just run out of power, so I picked up the only spare drill I could find which was a couple of years outdated. Little did I know that my co-workers were being slaughtered as I worked away. Soon enough I had finish the pocket of ore, and packed up my things. As I reached the lift up to the facility the beast jumped down the lift shaft and landed in front of me. The beast was in its full glory after having eaten all of the people in the facility besides for me. It towered over me, and let out a powerful roar that shook the mine. It had large fang protruding from its maw, and claws the size of my head. The red monster’s tail had also grow to be about ten yards long with a pointed end. So here I am, staring down the epitomy of evil. The physical manifestation of xeno-human unison stands before me in the form of the a demon from the biblical times. In the end one could say that today things are not going my way.
